MaxxCare food grade alcohol

How does MaxxCare kill pathogens, and why not use other chemicals?

  • Ethyl alcohol destroys pathogens effectively at a concentration of 60-90% by volume in water (v/v). Alcohol and water mixed in the right proportion allow the active mechanism to work by diffusing through the pathogen's cell membrane, denaturing proteins and rupturing the cell membrane.
  • MaxxCare at 70% concentration kills or inhibits the growth of pathogens non-specifically — bacteria, yeasts and moulds alike. In efficacy testing, MaxxCare achieved 100% reduction against bacteria (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella spp.) and 100% reduction against yeast (Candida albicans) and mould (Aspergillus niger).
  • MaxxCare is not corrosive to surfaces and evaporates readily, leaving no bitter taste or chemical residue and causing no skin irritation — unlike other chemicals such as chlorine.
